Willard Fire Rescue Attends two 9-11 Ceremonies
Willard Fire Rescue Responds to MVI with Entrapment
Aug. 22, 2003 at 1048 hours Willard Fire Rescue responded to an
MVI at Rocky Lane and 160 Hwy with three vehicles involved, with reported person
trapped and an injured baby. On arrival of Willard 3 Asst. Chief/Paramedic David
Deck on Engine 1 there were 6 Patients with five being Class III (minor) and one
Class II trapped in a S10 pickup that went under the rear of a lumber truck.
Chief Deck was IC. Willard 5, Capt. Jim Bolin in Engine 2 was leading the
extrication. Engine 1 pulled a 1 3/4" line for protection. Engine 3 crew helped
with removal and Rescue 1's, Willard 16, Rescue RN Pam Mahaffey gave care to the
patient. The patient was extricated with Hurst tool within minutes.
St. Johns EMS from Springfield, Missouri transported. They had a second
ambulance and air craft en route. After assessment of the Class II patient the
air craft was disregarded. Of the six total patients only one was transported.

Willard Fire Rescue Responses to Midnight House Fire
Received a report of a house on fire that the occupant was trying to fight. occupants noted smell of smoke in the west end bedroom with a light haze in the room. As they checked the house noted a glow out side and went outside to check and found the house on fire around the electrical power into the house and fire in the outside wall and roof area. Occupant used 2 large fire extinguishers with no control of the fire. The house was on a county road with water in the area. Tankers had to travel to Willard (4 miles) to get water.
On arrival of from Asst. Chief Deck, he had fire through the roof on the C side
with heavy enrollment. Ash Grove Fire Dist. was dispatched with the 1st alarm.
There was fire in the utility room and dinning in the area of the electrical
service. Special call for Bois D'Arc Fire Dist. and Walnut Grove Fire Dist.
Alarm time was 0004 hours and the last unit cleared at 0534 hours. The fire was
under control at 0242 hours,
Willard Engine 1 pulled skid load and started operating 2 - 1
3/4" lines and then as man power arrived 2 more 1 3/4" lines. An interior attack
was 1st started then changed to an exterior attract because of house falling in.
At this point a 2 1/2" line was placed into operation and later we added a 1
1/2" line. All lines were from Engine 1. Total of 4 - 1 3/4", 1 - 2 1/2", and 1
- 1 1/2".
AG-Engine 1 was set up about 400' down hill from the house and used 2 - 2500
gal. dump tanks. AG-Engine 1 pumped 2 - 3" line to W-Engine 1. 40,000 gallons
were used from Willard City. All hands were busy. There was one Willard
Firefighter injured with minor injuries.

Willard Fire Rescue Responds to MVI with Entrapment and Vehicle on Fire
On Aug. 16, 2003 at about1900 hours, Willard was dispatched for an MVI at AB and EE Highways, On arrival of Willard 3, Asst. Chief/Medic Deck he had a two vehicle MVI west of AB Highway on EE Highway. A Ford (F250) pickup on the south side and a Van on the north side into a pole. The pickup had light smoke coming from the engine compartment with all parties out, they were Class III. In the van the driver needed the door removed to immobilize them. Shortly after the arrival of Engine-1 the truck engine compartment started burning. Engine 1 under command of Willard 6, Lt. Doug Sanders (Standers was also IC) used an 1 3/4" line and about 50 gallons to extinguish the fire. Part of Engine-1's crew with Rescue 1 and Engine 2 used Hurst tool to remove the vans door to get the driver out. Rescue 3 crew added in patient care. There were a total of five patients with only one being transported by St. Johns EMS in Springfield.

Willard Fire Rescue Responds to Working House with Fast Knock Down
On Aug. 7, 2003 at 0018 hours Willard fire units toned for a fire in a house at 204 E Jackson. Mutual aid was also toned from Ash Grove and Walnut Grove fire districts to assist Willard. Engine 1 arrived on scene found flames coming out the front door area and also front room of house E-1 crew was packed up and made an interior attack. E-3 arrived on scene with Willard 4, Capt. Kelly Davis establishing command and started a water supply for E-1. Ash Grove F. P. D. Arrived on scene and assisted with water supply. The fire was brought under control and crews were switched out with E-1 crew. Ventilation was in place using positive pressure. At this point Walnut Grove F. P. D. was cancelled, and returned back to there district. After the fire was contained and overhaul, and salvage was started. It was decided to call the State Fire Marshall for a investigate the fire. The Fire Marshall arrived and Willard assisted with the investigation. Ash Grove was released and put back in there service area. This fire was ruled accidental by the State Fire Marshall's office and faulty electrical cord was the cause of the fire. Willard units were put back in service at 0448 hours by Capt. Davis.

Willard Fire Rescue had visitors to the station on Monday. Sixty-nine kindergarten students from Willard Central Elm. School toured the station. This was part of their of summer school activities.

Willard Fire Rescue responded on June 10, 2003 for a two car MVI on Highway 160 and Farm Road 123. Rescue 1 was on scene first, then Engine 1. Willard 6, Lt. Sanders was IC. One vehicle was in the intersection and the other vehicle was on the west of HWY 160 facing north. There were 4 patients total. On arrival on Rescue 1 Cox EMS, State Patrol, and Willard PD were on scene.

Entrapment, Fire, and Class I Patient

Willard Fire Rescue responded on June 9, 2003 to a two vehicle MVI with a pickup
truck and a single axle boom truck (utility truck). The utility truck came into
the line of the pickup (per the MHP Officer) and moved down the Lt. side of the
pickup entrapping the driver of the pickup and rolling the utility truck on its
side. The utility truck was on fire upon our arrival and the driver of the
pickup was a Class I.
Rescue 1 was first on scene and went to the pickup and started care, the driver
of the boom truck was not injured.
Engine 1 came and went to the truck fire and started attack the fire. Engine 2
and Truck 1 helped Engine1 with the fire. Engine 2 went and setup the LZ after
helping Engine 1.
Engine 3 came in and did extrication and added Rescue 1 in Patient care.
Cox Ambulance and Cox Air Care aided Patient care and Air Care transported.
IC was Asst. Chief Deck and Engine 3 and IC were on scene for about 2 hours as
they rolled the utility truck on its wheels. There were no hazards on the call.

MVI in the City of Springfield with Class II Injuries
Willard Fire Rescue Responded to a MVI with Class II Saturday May 17, about 1800 hours. Both patients used seat belt and removed them selves. St. Johns EMS responded for transport.

Willard Responds to Severe Weather Incidents in Greene County
Southwest Missouri was hit Sunday May 4, 2003 with major damage, injuries, and fatalities. In Greene County the city of Battlefield was hit the hardest. Willard responded to the request of Battlefield F.P.D. to aid in stabilizing the area. Willard Engine 3 and Rescue 3 under the command of Capt. Kelly Davis worked the area under the command of Battlefield Car 2. Other fire districts and departments responding in Greene County to help Battlefield. Student on The Way to Pickup His Prom Date Goes Into the River
On
May 1, 2003 Willard Fire Rescue responded to Farm Road 129 and Sac River Bridge
for a MVI with minor injuries. On arrival of the Asst. Chief Hopkins he found
the patient out of the car in the road walking around with only minor injuries.
The car is on a tree in the water, this area is about 8 to 10' deep

Car Cut in Two, Two Teens Injured
Willard Fire Rescue responded to a MVI with two Class II patients on 4-23-03 around 1800 hours. The car traveled about 300' and hit a 20" tree that tore the car in two pieces. The car came off Hwy EE at farm road 124 and traveled northwest behind a farm house were it hit a tree and was cut in two. In the picture to the lift you are looking into the front seat area from the back of the car.

Rush Hour Fatality
Willard
Fire Rescue responded to a reported unknown MVI. As units were responding, Ash
Grove 2 Asst. Chief Witt who was in the area, advised that there was a J-4 and
no other injuries. Units stood by for the Greene County Medical Examiner and
then recovered the victim.
The members of the Willard Fire District would like send their condolences to the Family.

T-Bone With One Trapped


Willard Fire Rescue responded to MVI with three Class 1 patients, and the driver was trapped. Crews worked quickly to remove the driver of the car after it was hit in the drivers side at an intersection in Willard Tuesday. The driver, the mother of a 5 and 7 year old in the vehicle was transported by St. Johns Air Ambulance to St. Johns Health Center in Springfield, MO. The two children were transported by St. Johns ground ambulance.
Willard Engine 1 and 3 used Jaws of Life to cut the roof and then remove the drivers door for access to the patient. Rescue 1's ALS personnel treated all patients as ambulances from Springfield responded to the scene.

Willard Fire Rescue Responds to Another Early Morning House Fire


January 6, 2003, at 0142 Willard was dispatched by Greene County 911 Center to a fire in an attached garage. While enroute dispatch advised that the fire was spreading into the main house. Willard 1, Fire Chief Gary Wirth was first on scene with a working fire. He established IC and called Ebenezer F. P. D. for tankers and manpower. The house was fully involved with 1/3 of the roof collapsed with four vehicles in front of the house on fire.
Engine 2 was first in and pulled two 1 3/4" lines and attack on A and B sides. Engine 2 also pulled a 2 1/2" line to C side. Engine 3 used one 1 3/4" line and started on the vehicles. The fire was mainly in the attic area making it unsafe for Firefighters to entry for an interior attack. The roof continued to collapse. The fire was under control after about an hour. Around 35,000 gallons were shuttled to the scene from a hydrant about one mile away.
The family dog was lost in the fire. The fire was started when one of the residence was loading logs into the fire place and caught their shirt on fire. The shirt was removed in the garage area and ignited items in the garage. There was gasoline in the area and this contributed to the fire spread. The victim was treated and released at the scene by Willard Rescue 1 ALS personnel with assistants from from one of Ebenezer's Paramedics.

Willard Fire Rescue Responds to House Fire With Possible Persons Inside

12-29-02, About 0500 hours Willard Fire Rescue was dispatched to a house fire with persons reported inside. A passer by reported to 911 that a house was on fire in the 5700 block of Farm Road 94. They reported that there was fire coming from the basement and second floor window. That no one was responding from inside the house. Willard Police and Greene County Sheriff officers responded before fire units and woke the family who were all asleep. The main fire was in the second floor bedroom. A young teenager who's room was on fire was not sleeping in the room at the time of the fire.
Willard 1, Fire Chief Gary Wirth, IC, was first on scene with fire shooting from the window. Engine 1 with 5 on board was 1st in and did an interior attack with 1 3/4" lines. Crews got the fire down within minutes.
Ebenezer Fire Dist. responded with tankers and man power.

Willard Responses Mut-Aid on Flue Fire, All Hands Working
12-27-02, Willard Fire Rescue responses with Ebenezer Fire Dist. on a reported flue fire. The call came in at 0026 hours on Friday morning. There was snow and ice on some roads into the scene after a record pre Christmas snow of 13". First arriving Ebenezer units had fire showing through the roof. All persons had exited the home.
Willard responded with 12 personnel and Engine 1 was our first in with five on board. They pulled a skied load of 2 1/2" "Y" into two 1 3/4" lines. Engine 1 later pulled two 1 3/4" cross lays. Willard 7, Capt. McGrady was Willard Operations. Willard 1, Fire Chief Gary Wirth was Willard's IC. The temperature was in the the teens and a local hydrant was not putting out good water. Pleasant View Fire Dist. was called for tankers and man power. Willard also responded with Engine 3, Rescue 3, and Tanker 3.
Ebenezer had 12 personnel and Willard worked the scene until about 0351 hours when the fire was under control.

Severe Weather Hit Greene County and Willard Area
12-17-02, Greene County was under a Tornado Warning after severe weather moved intro the area around 2100 hours on Tuesday night. Willard Fire Rescue dispatched 16 personnel for weather spotting. After a tornado hit a trailer park in eastern Lawrence County with Bois D' Arc and Willard in the direct path of the storm personnel were on a heighten alert. Winds were reported in the area up 90 MPH. Just southwest of the Willard area Willard spotters noted a possible funnel cloud. There was no damage in the Willard area but one person was killed in the Lawrence County trailer park with some severe injuries. Crews were out for 6 plus hours until 0300 hours on Wednesday. Thanks to the Willard Fire Rescue crews for keeping us safe.

Another Morning MVI on EE Highway, One Injured


December 20, 2002, at 0959 Willard Fire Rescue responded to a MVI. The area has a 55 mph limit at EE Highway and Farm Road 116. The driver hit the ditch and had minor injuries. The victim was transported to Cox North Medical Center by Cox EMS. Willard 1, Chief Gary Wirth was IC. Engine 1, Rescue 1, and Rescue 3 responded to the scene.

Morning MVI With Minor Injuries


December 19, 2002 (not 12-18-2003) Willard Fire Rescue responded to a MVI with minor injuries at Hwy 160 and Farm Rd. 123. The biggest problem was rush hour traffic because the MVI was in the west bound line into Springfield Missouri. There were two class III patients transported by St. Johns EMS to Cox South in Springfield. There were two PRC's. Engine 1 reported no hazards and the biggest problem was a stuck horn. A total of three cars were involved. Willard 5, Capt. Jim Bolin was IC.
