Willard Fire Rescue Responses to MVA Rollover
On
02/09/2010 at 07:48:00 Willard was dispatched to 3400 block of North HWY
AB for motor vehicle accident with injuries. Willard 2, Asst. Chief Deck
arrived at 07:54:00 on scene with a mini pickup rollover on its Rt. side
and into a power pole, the pole was FX in two and was possible held up
by the truck and guide wires. No other hazards where noted. Units from
R-1 directed traffic. MHP released Willard from traffic duties
before the power company started working on the pole.
Units responding were: Unit C2 and Unit R1.
Willard Fire Rescue Responses to Working Garage Fire after an Explosion
On February 25, 2010 at 1951 with Engine 2 arriving on scene at 2004 with a fully involved structure with flames coming through roof. Engine 1 provided water supply from hydrant to Engine 2. Fire attack was done with hand lines from Engine 2 and there deck gun. Engine 2 also supplied Willard Ladder 1 with water. Engine 3 providing an additional line for exposure protection of home to the north with water from Engine 2.
Ebenezer Ladder set up
and attacked the roof from overhead. Ebenezer Fire laid a line to their
ladder from an additional hydrant to the north. No interior attack was
performed due instability of roof except for CD corner of building
through rear of structure. Fire controlled within 1 hour and overhaul
began.
Owner stated he was charging batteries used for remote controlled
airplanes in the southwest corner of garage. They heard smoke alarms
going off, checked garage and found small fire. Owner retreated to
inside house to retrieve fire extinguisher and when returned to garage
approx. 2 minutes later garage was full involved. At that point they
evacuated the home.
Willard Fire Rescue Sets Record Year in 2009
Willard had a record year for service requests with a total of 814 requests. We had a total of 5,297 personnel on calls with an average of 6.5 personnel per call. The busy month was June with 80 calls for service and the lowest was December with 53. The most responders was in January with 8.9 per call and the lowest was November with 5.1 per call.
January of 2010 had more calls for service then any month in 2009. So here we go.
Willard Fire Rescue New Adm. and Training Building
In the Meadows Is Having an Open House October 31, 2009
2456 N. AB Hwy (Hwy EE and Hwy AB) and was the old Meadows Water Company building.
After months of remodeling headed up by Chief Gary Wirth and Asst. Chief Kelly Davis the facility is scheduled for open house on Oct. 31, 2009. The building was purchased from the City of Willard after they had purchased the Meadows Water Company last year. The building has a 95% new interior. The Chief Officers will move from the Willard Station to the administration building. Also moving will be the district's secretary office. The building has a new training room that added about 15 more seats then our past capacity (about 25) for a total of about 40 people. The forty people is with tables and without tables the training room could set upwards of 60. Something new to Willard Fire Rescue is the first bunkrooms. There are two bunkrooms with two beds each. There is a records storage room, shop - work room in the bay area, and two bathrooms. A will equipped kitchen was also added and a bay area can hold an engine and small rescue at the same time.
Willard Fire Rescue Officers Attend Dedication of New
Springfield - Branson Int Airport Firehouse
The new firehouse was dedicated today with many dignitaries being present. Members from Willard were Lt. Drug Sanders, Capt. Mike Gladney, and Asst. Chief David Deck. The new station is very nice and large. The station can house 5 units and located closer to the new airport terminal.
Willard Fire Rescue Names New Lt.s
After testing in July Willard has three new Lieutenants. They all passed the written, oral interviews, and incident interviews with good marks. They are Lt. Daniel Dale, Lt. Chad Shell, and Lt. Holland Smithson. Congratulations to all for doing an outstanding job on their tests.
Willard Fire Rescue Places Two new (to us) Units in Service
Willard Fire Rescue has placed in service a tanker and medical rescue unit. The tanker is a 1999 Freightliner automatic with a Cummins engine. The truck was taken to Wisconsin where a new 2000 gallon Imperial Company tank was placed on the unit and a Hale fire pump. The tanker has rear and duel side dumps. There is a 2500 gallon dump tank carried on the unit.
The medical rescue is a 2000 International/Horton ambulance. It was put in service with help from our friends of the Demarest Fire District, with a special thanks to Chris Denton of Demarest Fire.
Willard Fire Rescue Responses to Fatality MVA
Willard Fire Rescue responded on August
23, 2009 at 1732 to a injury MVA with a fatality. Within a few minutes
Willard Fire Rescue had a paramedic on the scene and an ex-fireman
with Willard also stopped to help. Greene County Sheriff's unit
was on scene within 2 minutes. St. Johns EMS was on scene within a short
time also. Willard 2, AC Deck was 160 command. A pickup was west bound
on Hwy 160 and a small car crossed north bound on FR 123 and was T-boned
by the pickup. No one was trapped and all hazards were minor.

Willard Responds to Tornado In Seneca Missouri With SR-1
Willard Fire Rescue
responded to Seneca as part of the state wild mutual aid response to the
deadly tornados that hit Newton County. SR-1 (Heavy Rescue) with six
personnel responded. Fire Chief Gary Wirth (Willard 1), Rescue RN Pam
Mahaffey (W-16), Amy and Chad Shell (W-14 and W-28), Jason Altic (W-39),
Lt./EMT Andy Blake (W-09). SR-1 responded to a requested from
Newton County for help with search and rescue after a tornado.
Dispatched to US 43 and Iris Road area and then changed to
Reddings Mill Fire station. Reported there and then sent to Staging at
Neosho judicial facility. From there dispatched to US 43 and Iris Road
to search a 1 sq mile area to ensure roads passable. Accomplished
without any work. Then sent to Seneca Fire Station #1 arriving at
approximately 02:30. Assigned to assist them with any calls. At
approximately 08:00 told to report back to staging in Neosho to be
released. Reported back and released to return to Willard at
approximately 09:30.

Car and Dumpster Fire Simulator Improvements
April 15, 2008, This week AC Davis took deliver of a 300 gallon LP tank and 125' of LP hose to connect to a districts car and dumpster fire simulators. The hose in on a home made portable hose reel made from a push lawnmower frame. This will improve training of these kinds of fires for Willard personnel.
Southwest Missouri Takes a Major ICE STORM Hit Including Willard
January 12, 2007 was day one. Willard Fire Rescue responded to a record number of incidents as the Greene County 911 center stopped giving out incident numbers and tones. The 911 center would just give the information to the responding agency and let them go. Not all of the numbers are in but Willard may have responded to 70 plus incidents in the first five days.
Like Willard other districts in the county and southwest Missouri were so busy mutual-aid was hard to get. Willard had numerous structure fires, CO calls, and power lines down calls from ice covered trees falling.
Some of the note worthy incidents were; closing of station 2, Operating Station 1 and 3 for over a week without power, housing and feeding personnel from Willard for a week, having State wide mutual-aid from High Ridge F.P.D., Ozark F.P.D. and Little Dixie F.P.D in our stations for six days, a rescue of a person trapped in a house fire and many more.
Willard Fire Rescue Responds to Trash - Van - House Fire All In One
On 12/30/2006 at 14:58:00 Willard Fire Rescue was dispatched to 800 block S Miller RD, Willard, MO 65781. The incident was determined to be a exterior fire that set the house and van on fire.
Willard 1, Chief Gary Wirth arrived on scene with fire totally engulfing rear of van that was approximately 2' from garage door. Flames were above height of van spreading to garage area. Engine 1 attacked the fire at van with a quick burst and then attacked fire above garage doors. Engine 3 crew entered the house and made access to garage from interior. Fire was contained in approximately 10 minutes. A positive pressure fan was set up to keep smoke out of living area of home. The attic was checked for further extension once fire was initially extinguished. Personnel checked for hot spots and overhauled the fire. Total water used was approximately 1500 gallons obtained from Engine 1 and Tanker 1. Tanker 1 was used as a nurse tanker to Engine 1.
Damage areas; the van (heavy), exterior of house above garage doors, attic area above garage, with moderate to heavy smoke damage to interior of garage, and light smoke to living area of home. The garage contained a Bass boat and a 1993 Mercury Marquis. Willard 7, Lt. Doug Sanders obtained keys from owner and drove the car out of the garage.
The fire was called in by Katy Bolin who was north bound on Miller Rd. She observed fire at rear of van between the house and van. Another passerby, who was southbound, went to door and awoke owner and got him out of house. The fire appeared to have started in trash dumpster, which at southwest corner of house between van and garage. Source of ignition was undetermined but was possibly ashes from wood stove.
Units responding were: Chief 1, Engine 1 and 3, Rescue 1 and 3, Tanker 1 and 3. Mutual aid received was received from Ash Grove F.P.D.
Willard Fire Rescue Responses to Fully Involved SUV Fire at the 74.2 mile marker on I-44
October 4, 2006 Willard was dispatched to a car fire on I-44. On arrival of Willard 2, Asst. Chief Deck the vehicle was fully involved. The vehicle was a Chevy Blazer that was just serviced with an oil and transmission fluid change, the fuel tank was just filled also. The tank exploded and sending parts of the SUV flying over a 100' in the air. Engine 1and Tanker 1 also responded and 2,000 gallons of water were used. Willard had Mut-Aid from Brookline Fire District with 2 Engines and man power. Their crews helped Willard personnel on the attack line and overhaul.

August 16, 2006 Willard Fire Rescue responded to a MVI. Patient was transported to an area hospital.

Willard Fire Rescue Had A Record Month in July
Willard Fire Rescue had the busy month for responses in history. The District responded to 83 calls for service. The total for the year ending in July was 421. This is up 12% over the same period as last year. The breakdown was Medical 55 (record number of medical in one month), Fire 11, (5 structure, 5 grass, 1 vehicle) 4 mutual aid, 6 Motor Vehicle Accidents, 1 false alarm, 3 cancelled en route, and 3 misc.
Willard Fire Rescue Responses to Working House Fire

On 03/29/2006 at 11:43, Willard Fire Rescue
was dispatched to 8500
block of West Farm Rd 52 for reported house fire with smoke coming from the front windows.
Engine 1 arrived at 1155 hours with Willard 2, Asst. Chief Deck and Willard 21, Heather Pope
with a working house fire. Responding also first out from
the Station 1 was Willard 7, Lt. Sanders with Willard 44, Williams who came in
Tanker 1. Walnut Grove Fire
District was dispatched on mutual aid. and Asst. Chief Deck had Greene County
dispatched Ash Grove F.P.D.
En route at Highway AC and Highway 123 Engine 1 noted heavy smoke in the sky.
Willard 2 had Greene County dispatch Bios D' Arc F.P.D and Ebenezer F.P.D with one
tanker each and some man power.
On arrival Engine 1 found a one store home of about 1,300 Sq. Ft. with heavy
involvement in the south half of the home. Information was that no one was in the
house. Engine 1 was placed on the Farm Road 52 due south of the structure to use
the Deck Gun because of limited manpower. Fire was coming from the A side front
window 4x4 and D side front door and 3x4 window facing the A side. The fire was all in the south
half of the home with only light smoke coming from the rear of the house.
Engine 1 started operations with the Deck Gun and within minutes had white
smoke. Willard 21, Pope pulled 1 3/4" speed lay as the Deck Gun was working.
After Tanker 1 arrived Willard 44, Williams and 21, Pope started working the
hand line starting at the 4x4 front window. Dump tank was set up with help from Willard 22, Willhite. The Deck Gun was shut
down at this time as the hand line began worked. Willard 24, FF Schoolcraft
started used the second speed lay on the C side in a Kitchen window as we
finished the water dump set up. The fire was under
control (1225). Willard 24, 34, 08, 44 under Operation (Willard 4, Capt Blake)
worked the back of the home stopping fire movement into that area.
The Fire Marshall was called as will as the Greene County Sheriffs Dept. In the end the fire possible started in the front of the house under the floor around the front window, possible electrical.

Willard Fire Rescue Responds to Early Morning Fire on Second Floor
On 02/19/2006 at 0107 hours Willard Fire rescue
was dispatched to 3000 block of North AB Hwy The location is a two store family
dwelling. At 0113 hours, Willard 2, Asst. Chief Deck arrived on scene and
reported fire on the second floor in the wall. All persons were out of the home.
The occupant stated that fire was in the wall on the second floor south bedroom
and all parties were out of the house. Asst. Chief Deck noted that there was
light white smoke coming from eves and around the second floor windows. Willard
2 established AB command and did a walk around with no fire in any area of the
1st floor.
Engine 3 was 1st in and they setup in driveway south of the house and pulled a
cross lay. Willard 41, FF- Daniel Dale and Willard 47, FF/EMT Luke Walker
entered and moved up to the second floor and located the fire in the second room
south and used about 50 gallons of water and put the fire down. Engine 1 had 2
person back up Engine 3 crew and also placed a fan at the base of the stares for
ventilation. The Engine 3 and 1 crews did ventilation by opening the windows on
the second floor.
Engine 3 was on scene at 0119 and fire was under control at 0131. Brookline Fire
Protection District was on scene at 0123 hours and was not involved in
operations, was released at 0131hours by Command.
Investigation note a possible electrical fire. 02:22 hours all units back in
service.
